Earth Day Advice

Today is Earth Day, a day full of advice on how each of us can live a"greener" lifestyle. Today is a day for raising awareness of our planet and how we should balance our needs with its protection. In the spirit this day is supposed to be about, I'd like to offer a bit of advice on how you should treat our planet. My advice: Use the earth and all of its resources to fulfill your every need and want, and don't feel guilty about it. For the truth is, your life and happiness depend on your ability to use the earth's resources.

The things that you need to live (such as food, medicine, computers, automobiles, oil, electricity, etc.) are not made out of thin air; they are extracted from the earth. Luckily for us all, the earth has plenty. Our planet is an enormous ball of resources that could not only sustain us, but make our lives last longer and be immeasurably more enjoyable. We haven't even begun to realize the true potential the earth has for our betterment. The true limit is not the amount of resources the earth contains, but our knowledge of those resources and our imagination.If the earth deserves our appreciation, then it's for the great value it offers us. And therein likes the flaw in the way Earth Day is celebrated.

Instead of celebrating Earth as a source of human prosperity, it is treated as something that should be protected from humans. We are told that we should aim to limit our effect on our environment. This might seem like a noble goal, but if your life is dependent on your ability to use the environment, what is really being limited? Your life and your happiness.Some people might think that is a fair trade to make, but I do not. We each have a relatively short time to spend on this planet, and I think it's unfair to ask anyone to sacrifice even one precious second of that time for the sake of plants, animals, or inanimate matter. We all will be one with the earth eventually, so let's make the most of our lives while we can. So this Earth Day, don't be afraid to take advice. Save gas money by carpooling. Get some exercise by riding a bike. Lower your utility bill by adjusting your thermostat a few degrees. Just don't forget why you're doing it.

Also, a little humility might be in order today as well. We can't create it any more than we can destroy it. This story pits nature versus man's greatest weapon. Wanna guess who wins?

Some great questions to shut global warming kool-aid drinkers down. Try 'em in your next conversation with your favorite tree-hugger:

Who says a warmer temperature is a bad thing? What's optimal?

Why is Greenland now primarily covered with ice? Now uninhabitable, it was once farmed.

If CO2 is a pollutant, why do plants and trees need it for life?

Is "consensus" proven science? Or is science undeniable fact? For instance, the Earth is round, what goes up must come down, we breathe oxygen, etc - all facts - indisputable. Man-made global warming is not science - it's "consensus."

It is something you almost never see; a member of your evening news - local or national - stand up and speak out on the myth of man-made global warming.

Mike Thompson's done just that. Both on the air to a carefull, lesser extent, but full-throttle on his blog. Below is the original text.

"As Joe (Lauria) pointed out, Dr William Gray is a very outspoken critic of the global warming proponents. As such, he has been attacked by the GW proponents, and funding for his research has dried up...he put $100,000 of his own cash into his research. He puts his money where his mouth is, and he would not do that were he not concerned over the derailing of logic in climate science. This story has become all too common for those who dare speak up, and debunk Global Warming. Gray, and other scientists with strong credentials in physics and climate science have been shouted down as climate heretics, for disagreeing with the GW crowd. It is easier to silence scientific dissent by utilizing the politics of personal destruction, than to actually debate them on the merits of their arguments. That should tell you something about the global warming debate...there is none right now...it's either you believe, or you are to be discredited. Isn't that how Hitler took control of Germany? It's a slow process, but it is scary, because if someone can control your energy sources, they can control you. We are already being told what light bulbs we can and cannot use...through legislation. We are being forced to fund research into alternative energies sources that are inefficient, and that cause the price of food, energy, and everything else to rise...through legislation....rather than allow free enterprise to allocate funds to those energy sources that will survive through good old American innovation! How far do we let it go? That's up to all of you."
